Sports/Athletics
There are 3 different levels of sports at Appalachian.
- Division I Varsity Sports: App State competes in NCAA Division I varsity sports through 9 men and 9 women’s teams. To compete on a certain sport, students should contact the coach for tryout information.
For more information: appstatesports.com - Club Sports: a student-run, student-funded organization which competes with other schools at the club and junior varsity level. The time commitment is not as strenuous as Varsity athletics, however we do represent App State competitively.
For more information: clubsports.appstate.edu - Intramural Sports: Mixtures of team, dual/individual, and special events intramural sports provide opportunities to compete against peers in the App State community in a structured, safe and fun opportunity.

Students can also enjoy the many recreation facilities, fitness, and outdoor programs without competing. Visit urec.appstate.edu for more information.
Study Outside of Boone
Appalachian provides students the opportunity to study in different locations to explore different cultures and bring the classroom to the real world. Educational opportunities can be as short as a week or as long as two years! Some experiences are offered through academic departments (watch emails and university announcements) where others are more formalized through offices like Study Abroad/International Education.
Student Research
Students who understand how discoveries are made in their chosen fields are well-prepared to address the unsolved problems of the future. The Office of Student Research supports and promotes learning through mentored research experiences with faculty and other national and international scholars and professionals. For more information visit osr.appstate.edu.
Internships
Experience in a student’s field of study is the best foot in the door for a job. Internships allow students to get hand-on experience, network with employers in their intended career field, and earn academic credit. For more information visit internships.appstate.edu.
