Transfer Admissions & Engagement
Our office is the go-to place for questions you may have as well as support, events, and retention efforts for transfer students. We are available in person, via email, or the phone. We provide referrals, advice, and caring people to talk to.
- We will work with other offices and our transfer clubs to design events to help transfer students acclimate academically and socially. During a transfer student’s first semester they will receive a weekly email newsletter, Transfer Scoop, full of information. Archived copies of Transfer Scoop are located on our AppSync page.
Mentors
Transfer students often lack the connections that students who began at Appalachian have developed. To combat that, we have identified both faculty and students who have an appreciation for the road transfer students have taken and who want to share their experience with new students.
- Transfer Student Mentors are transfer students that have been in your place in the past! They have transferred from local community and four-year colleges and now wish to provide some help and support to new students going through the same transition. TSM’s are available to answer questions, help you navigate your first semester at App State, assist you with ways to get involved, or just meet for coffee and conversation. Our mentors (found on our Transfer Student Mentor webpage) want you to reach out to them! Email them and start a conversation!
- Faculty Transfer Mentors are professors who are interested in developing supportive academic relationships with new App State transfer students. These professors provide guidance, support, and referrals to resources that will benefit new students in a new environment. They have the ability to influence, encourage, and guide transfer students to enhance their academic success. Our mentors (found on our Faculty Transfer Mentor webpage) invite you to reach out to them. We continue to grow our network of Faculty Transfer Mentors so if you don’t see a faculty member in your academic department check back for updates.
Belk Library Transfer Resource
The Library provides transfer students with a specific web resource to assist you in your academic pursuits at App State. Students can schedule a RAP (Research Advisory Program) session where librarians provide one-on-one, in-depth research assistance. An online video on Library Orientation for Transfer Students is available to get you started. Belk Library also has subject specific librarians to help you with your research.
Leadership Training
Community-Engaged Leadership (CEL) hosts numerous leadership development opportunities. One, Emerging Leaders, has it's own track for new transfer students. Emerging Leaders is a ten week experience designed for students interested in personal grownth and leadership development. For more information visit the Emerging Leaders website.
