Every fall new students kick off their Appalachian memories with Welcome Weekend, their official welcome to Appalachian. This weekend, held this year August 18 - 21, offers transfer students - who often live off-campus - a way to connect socially with other new students while getting comfortable with the campus before classes start. Specifically designed programs are offered to help transfer students get to know the campus, their classmates and the community. Some highlights include:
Social for students living off-campus
The Appetizer
Faculty Exchange & Common Reading Discussion
T-Shirt Swap & Lunch with the Office of Transfer Services
Club Expo
Black & Gold Convocation
The full schedule and event descriptions will be available soon on the Welcome Weekend website and on Welcome to App’s AppSync portal. Transfer students are encouraged to fully participate in this weekend’s events! As classes begin on Tuesday, the Office of Transfer Services will continue to offer other activities to engage students. Our schedule of Fall events can be found on our website or our AppSync portal.
The common reading book this year is One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Each year Appalachian selects a book that all new students read together to establish a common experience and introduces them to academic life at Appalachian. Students receive the book at Orientation and should read the book over the summer. During Welcome Weekend new students will take part in discussions about the book and hear from the author during Black and Gold Convocation.
