T-POP: Transfer Pre-Orientation Program
T-POP is a day of activities designed to help newly admitted Appalachian transfer students find the answers to all of their questions and prepare for their upcoming Orientation session. A typical day involves sessions on financial aid, transfer of credit, registration, and involvement in campus life. We also have a Q&A session with the transfer student mentors.
Participation in this program is completely free! As an incentive to participate in this day-long workshop, Admissions is willing to defer your enrollment "advanced payment" or deposit when you complete your acceptance agreement.
Transfer Orientation
Orientation is required for all students and allows new students to get a feel for campus, meet with an academic advisor and other faculty, and finalize their first semester class schedules. Follow these steps to register for orientation, complete our Pre-Registration Engagement Project (PREP), and register for classes.
Welcome Weekend/Activities
Our goal during Welcome Weekend is for you to become more comfortable at Appalachian, to make new friends, to have fun, and to start weaving yourself into the fabric of student life at Appalachian. Welcome Weekend activities serve as an extension of your summer orientation. Take advantage of Welcome Weekend and Welcome to APP events throughout your first semester to ensure a great start at Appalachian! View the schedule on our Welcome website - welcome.appstate.edu. Keep checking back as new events will be added!
First Ascent
We are offering a series of day trips this summer! The day trips will revolve around hiking and paddling. The trips will end around 2pm so you can have ample time to explore the rest of Boone and the campus of Appalchian State University! Learn more!
Trailhead Experience
The Trailhead Experience is a three-day program that prepares incoming first-year and transfer students for life at Appalachian State. Hosted by the Community-Engaged Leadership office, Trailhead helps students create connections, build community, and develop their capacity to lead at Appalachian State and beyond. Learn more!
Ascend
The ASCEND Program is an engaging, intentional, high-impact supplemental orientation program* targeting first time Appalachian State University students from marginalized and historically underrepresented backgrounds. The ASCEND Program is based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and establishes a solid foundation for new students to feel a sense of belonging and community, be empowered to succeed with knowledge, connections and resources, and to explore and give back to their new home-away-from-home.
