Meeting General Education Requirements

There are several ways to meet Appalachian's General Education requirements.

From a North Carolina Community College

Note: Students must apply to graduate at the community college in order for the diploma or degree to be denoted on the transcript. A final transcript needs to be sent to Appalachian with the diploma or degree posted.

The Associate in Applied Science does NOT meet Appalachian's General Education requirements.

All Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees from a North Carolina Community College prior to 1997 will also be evaluated on a course-by-course basis.

From a UNC System 4 Year Institution

  • Completion of the UNC System 4 Year Institution's General Education requirements

Note: Students should communicate with Appalachian's General Education Office at 828.262.2028 or gened@appstate.edu to determine if General Education requirements will be met at Appalachian.

From an Out-of-State Community College

  • Associate in Arts/Associate in Science

Second Degree Seeking Students

  • Bachelor degree from any 4-year accredited institution
