Preliminary Evaluation

Preliminary Evaluation requests submitted directly to Transfer Admissions & Engagement will typically be completed within 10 - 15 business days. During heavy articulation, the timeframe may be extended up to 20 business days.

You can create your own preliminary evaluation prior to your application to Appalachian by utilizing the Transfer Equivalency Course Search. If you do not see your school or course listed, it may mean that we have not yet seen it. You may email the institution information and/or course description(s) to Transfer Admissions & Engagement at for review. Please note that all North Carolina Community College courses that are accepted as transfer credit are listed on the Transfer Equivalency Course Search.

How to create a preliminary evaluation using the Transfer Equivalency Course Search tool:

  1. Click the ADD button as you locate and review the course(s) from your institution(s) to populate coursework at the bottom of the screen under “Preliminary Credit Evaluation”.
  2. When finished, either capture a screenshot or 'right-click' and select 'Print' to save a PDF or print a hard copy for your records. NOTE: After you leave the search, all information will be deleted.

Please Note: Official credit evaluations will typically be completed within two to three weeks of admission for transfer students and within two to three weeks of paid deposit for first year students.
